Do you know where your hay is grown? The Southwestern part of the Country is quite dry and arid and typically has unique soil composition which will be represented in the forage grown in these areas.
The copper, zinc and phosphorus levels will generally be lower in forages grown in Southwestern soils. Conversely, these soils are high in calcium and manganese, which will also be represented in any forage grown in these soils.
In an effort to be more specific in addressing the nutritional needs of horses in the Southwestern parts of the United States, Equine Challenge™ is pleased to introduce a forage specific supplement package for forages grown in the Southwestern part of the United States, Equine Challenge ™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Alfalfa and Equine Challenge ™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Grass.
With that in mind, we at Equine Challenge™ have adapted our original formulas, Equine Challenge™ Vitamins & Minerals Alfalfa and Equine Challenge™ Vitamins & Minerals Grass to more specifically address these specific horse nutritional needs of the Southwest. The only changes to Equine Challenge ™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Alfalfa and Equine Challenge ™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Grass are to the levels of copper, zinc, phosphorous, calcium, manganese and Vit. D. Other than that, Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals contains all the original Vitamins, Minerals and Probiotics that your horses are currently getting now.
We have significantly raised the levels of ZinPro Amino Acid complexes in both copper and zinc in their synergistic balance to compliment the soils of the southwest.
Given the high level of natural manganese in the Southwest, Equine Challenge™ has no ADDED manganese to our Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Alfalfa and Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Grass formulas.
The calcium phoshorus ratio is very important in maintaining metabolic balance in the horse. Given the higher levels of calcium that exist in the typically dry and arid areas of the southwest, Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Alfalfa and Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Grass will not have any ADDED calcium. We will add additional phosphorus in the Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Alfalfa and the phosphorus levels will remain the same in the Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Grass to help in balancing the higher natural calcium level in the Southwest.
Although there is a great deal of sunshine available in the Southwest, not all horses are in the sun day in and day out. Many horses are boarded and only see the sunlight when turned out or being worked in the open. Many facilities in the hotter areas of the country get their work done in the early morning or under cover of an arena.
Vit. D is manufactured by the horse given sunlight, if insufficient time in the sun is a problem for the horse, then Vit. D will be required. This will presents greater problems in the winter when the ground or temperature is unsuitable. The overall level of Vit. D has been decreased significantly in the Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Alfalfa and Equine Challenge™ Southwest Vitamins & Minerals Grass formulas.
